Medium-sized and resembling blackberries in size, mulberries are tiny, messy, and sweet berries that are produced by deciduous mulberry trees. If you wish to plant a healthy mulberry tree, you can ask your local experts for a quality tree service. The serrated-edged, dark-green leaves of the white mulberry (Morus alba) and the red mulberry (Morus rubus), both of which are widespread in North America. In North America, three of the five mulberry tree species are most likely to be found:
Morus Rubra
The fruit of the native red mulberry tree in North America begins off pale green before turning crimson or dark purple when mature. The tough, twice-as-long leaves of the Morus alba have a smooth underside. Although red mulberry trees are frequently difficult to acquire in nurseries, they may be found growing naturally in eastern Canada and the United States.
Morus Australis
The mature height of this type of tree, also known as the Korean mulberry, is barely 20 to 30 feet. It has somewhat glossy, light green leaves, with fruit that varies in hue from practically white to dark crimson and purple. In North America, it is not a typical landscaping tree.
Morus Alba
The most prevalent kind of mulberry in North America is sometimes referred to as the “white mulberry tree.” Its blackberry-shaped fruit, which starts white before becoming dark purple-red, makes this endemic to China easy to recognize from other trees in the genus. Many attractive and sterile cultivars are offered in the nursery industry, making them more appropriate for use in landscapes. The Morus alba cultivars “Kingan” and “Chapparal” are both drought-tolerant selections for arid climates.
Morus Nigra
The dark purple (nearly black) fruit on black mulberry trees is fairly huge when it is mature, and the trees themselves are often 40 feet tall. North America seldom encounters this Asian native.
Morus Celtidifolia
Native to the Southwest, Texas mulberry trees have more shrub-like appearances and only reach a maximum height of 25 feet. The edible fruits, which are scarlet, purple, or almost black, are great for luring animals, especially birds, to your environment.
